Morgan, Addison and I went home to visit my parents this past weekend and celebrate with my mom her retirement after nearly 34 yrs of service. My biggest concern for the weekend was simply the trip to and from with an infant and a toddler in the car for an extended period of time. I armed myself well, with videos of Dora and Thomas, purchased a portable v-smile for Morgan's games, fed Addison before we left and had her pacifier on hand. With many people praying for us and our travel I felt blessed by God's answer to our prayers. Morgan, who will not take a nap for the life of me - even in the car, fell asleep with in 25 minutes of leaving! Addison did well as well and fell asleep some time afterward. Both slept almost until we arrived at my parents! Unbelievable!
However, we had a bit of an unexpected event.... Addison had not been eating well Wed, Thurs, Fri, and Sat. Then Saturday night I was up all night with constant, no stop screaming. She was very inconsolable. My mom and I took her temp on Sunday morning and discovered a 101.9 temp. We called the er and they told us to bring her in right away. When the doctor told me that they were going to admit her for a minimum of 2 days, I about fell off my chair. They did a chest x-ray, urine sample, nose swab (for the flu and rsv) which all came back normal and took blood. They also attemted to obtain spinal fluid via a spinal tap to rule out meningitis. They were unable to obtain spinal fluid after 5 attempts, two with guided imaging and from what I understand it is easier to get spinal fluid on an infant than drawing blood. On her blood work, her white blood cell count came back really high, indicating an infection somewhere in her body. So they treated her for antibiotics for 2 days and then they took her off and monitored her for 24 hours to make sure she did not spike another temp. They also took more blood early Wednesday morning which came back all normal.
So, finally yesterday, after 3 days in the hospital, they released us and we drove back home. However, we are not totally out of the clear as she could have a partially treated case of meningitis, but the dr thinks that it is probably a virus she picked up. We see our ped on Monday. Although, she is eating well, smiling a lot and not fussy at all, so I believe we are most likely in the clear. Praise God for taking good care of her!
Here are pics from our stay....
Feeling better...
